God Bless AMERICA

4th of July means cookouts, fireworks, parades, but most importantly, America's independence. It's also fun to show your patriotism with fashion, I mean, why not? As the 4th of July was approaching, I couldn't help but think about going all out for this day with my American flag attire. Unfortunately, work got in the way of my plans, so I'm keeping it simple this year with a red and white striped tank and navy blue high-waisted pleated shorts. Next year, I hope to be more prepared and maybe complete the whole DIY flag shorts. Anyway, here are some 4th of July fashion trends that I am currently loving!!

I'm totally obsessed with both of Katy Perry's looks! I definitely plan on recreating that off the shoulder sweater next year! How cute AND patriotic!

An American flag bikini is an absolute MUST for the 4th, especially if you're spending it on the lake or beach!

Totally making these shorts next year!!

These two options would be so cute with some high-waisted stone wash shorts.

Other looks I love!

Happy 4th of July to all!! Be safe and enjoy! Thanks for reading!!

90's Throwback: Kelly Kapowski

If you grew up in the 90's, then you probably watched Saved By the Bell. If you're a girl, you probably idolized Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani-Amber Thiessen). Who didn't want to be her? She was the prettiest, most popular girl at Bayside, AND dating the cutest boy in school, Zack Morris. Unless you've been living under a rock, then you too have noticed that the 90's are making a comeback in fashion trends. You know what they say, "what goes around, comes around." And that couldn't be more true. This post is focused on one of my childhood idols, Kelly Kapowski. She was the queen of florals, crop tops, and girly prints. She even rocked those bodycon skirts that are so popular now. Here's a look at Kelly's wardrobe, along with updated versions for today.

Florals, Florals, Florals!

Floral Pants. I have been seeing these everywhere!

These are from Delia's. You can pair these with a crop top like Kelly, or choose a sheer blouse, pastel top, or a tank with a denim jacket thrown over it for that 90's appeal.

Floral dresses and skirts were basically a staple for Kelly Kapowski. Here are some modern versions of the floral dress.

The first one is SO Kelly! Both dresses can be found at Forever 21.

Floral skirt from TopShop

Floral bodycon skirt.

Add a light wash denim jacket to complete your look. Another staple for Kelly. Denim Jacket from Old Navy.

And don't forget the Keds!! Aren't these pastel floral Keds soooo Kelly Kapowski?

Thanks for reading!!

Greetings

Hello There.

I can't believe I've finally made it here! The idea for starting a blog has been brewing for quite some time now. Actually, I created one (which you can see here http://sequinsandstripes.blogspot.com/ ), but I discovered there was already another blog, which is really awesome btw, by that name. So I started slacking on my own, but here I am again, entering the blogging world and hopefully succeeding this time around! I believe this could possibly be one of the best things I ever do, plus it took some encouraging from my friends and co-workers....so here I am!

Some other things to know about me are...

  • I'm a small town southern gal with big city dreams.
  • I am proud to be a born and raised Tennessee gal.
  • I am a 25 year old lover of all things FASHION! I was also a Fashion Merchandising major in college, just an FYI.
  • My life long goal and also what I went to school for is to become a merchandise buyer (my dream job). I am still in the process of meeting that goal. Of course my real dream job, which is a total fantasy, is to become a wardrobe stylist for music videos/tv shows. Hey, a girl can dream.
  • I am a self proclaimed magazine hoarder (No lie, I still have magazines from 1998. I just can't bring myself to throw them out).
  • I honestly have a serious shopping problem. Clothes just make me feel good inside-at times I'm convinced I need to seek professional help, but don't most girls have this problem?
  • I am completely and utterly obsessed with Paris, France and French culture. (I was lucky enough to visit when I was 17 and it changed my life).
  • I am absolutely in love with gold whether it be jewelry, clothes, hardware on accessories, home decor...anything gold, I love it! And of course I love anything that glitters, sparkles, shimmers, and shines!
  • I'm all into some celebrity gossip and am filled with useless information. I am a walking encyclopedia for celebs. No really - ask me anything! I can assure you I know the answer. If not, I'll find out. ;-)
  • And lastly, I created this blog to write mostly about my love for fashion, however, this blog will most likely include posts about beauty, food, travel, personal, and celebrities, of course!
  • One more thing. I don't have a personal photographer, so I apologize in advance for my either self portrait i-phone pictures or mirror pictures for outfit posts, haha. It will take me some time. I'm just a beginner afterall.
Thanks for stopping by!! Hope y'all will stick around for more!
xoxo
